Cricket is the national game of India.Oh! Sorry it’s Hockey. See, that’s what the condition of our nation game, hockey, is at present.
Cricket is the god of all the sports played in India. Why? Take a step back, sit down at your desk and think for a moment, you yourself will find the answers.
Hockey has given 8 Olympic gold medals to India, hitherto. No matter how much achievement has been done in hockey, it remains insignificant. We still don’t want to give opportunities to hockey; neither do we want to strive for its upliftment. We don’t want to give equal respect to games other than cricket.
Cricket has become a major sport in India.T20 is the future of cricket. That’s what they say. The question still remains – why are we giving so much importance to cricket?
There are many reasons: Money, fame, name. Though, the pivotal reason remains media. Not only does the media stalwartly supports cricket, but also plays a vital role in publicizing the game.
Media should encourage other sports too. Every day we see the newspaper. Every one does visit the sports section. If you have observed, cricket occupies one whole page and sometimes two. It’s very rare that other sports get such luxury.
Media should not concentrate only on cricket, but also pay equal attention to other sports.
Coco Cola, Pepsi, Gillette and other companies should also give at least 10% amount of cricket advertisement cost to other sports in India.
As far as government is concerned, it needs to think about other sports played in India too. The sports Minster is always seen in the cricket match.
